Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, received Christiane Homann, the newly appointed German Ambassador to Iraq.

During a meeting convened in Erbil on Monday, October 9, 2023, Qubad Talabani extended congratulations to the recently appointed German Ambassador and expressed optimism over the advancement of relations between the Kurdistan Region and the German government throughout her tenure in Iraq.

The meeting focused on the Kurdistan Region's relations with Baghdad. In this context, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the challenges and obstacles to budget law implementation and stated: "We are currently working to identify a solution that effectively addresses the challenges, and the citizens of the region (Kurdistan Region) should not be left without a budget and their salaries."

Qubad Talabani also expressed appreciation to the German government for its assistance to the Kurdistan Region. Specifically, he thanked the German government for its assistance and collaboration on a number of projects initiated by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. These initiatives included the diversification of revenue sources, economic reform initiatives, and tourism development projects. All through these efforts, the German government provided the Deputy Prime Minister's Office with support in a variety of forms.

The reformation of the Ministry of Peshmerga was the subject of discussion during a later part of the meeting. The Kurdistan Regional Government's Deputy Prime Minister detailed ongoing reform efforts within the Peshmerga forces and thanked the German government for its invaluable support at various stages of these efforts over the past few years.
