Wrexham's Kurdish shop owner helped women and children evacuate from flats engulfed in smoke from a fire.

Sarwar Mahmoud, a Kurd residing in Wrexham, UK, told PUKMEDIA: "I risked my life and went to the scene of the incident alone out of a sense of responsibility and humanity."

Mohammed explained: "On Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at 9 p.m. (local time), a fire broke out in a shop several apartments above my shop in Wrexham, North Wales. Because it was night, no one was aware of the fire, so I went to the scene when I smelled and saw smoke from the fire."

"I immediately went to the houses, awoke them by calling and knocking on the door, and rescued approximately 30 people, including women, children, the elderly, and young people, before rescue teams and firefighters arrived," he added.

Mahmoud is a Kurdish national who has lived in the UK for 15 years. He was born in the Garmian region of the Kurdistan Region. He is a British citizen who operates a shop in the country. His humanitarian work has piqued the interest of the British media.
