Qubad Talabani: Political disputes should not affect reform initiatives

In a meeting with German Consul General Klaus Streicher in Erbil, Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani stressed the significance of conducting free and fair elections.
The Kurdistan Region's political situation was discussed, and Qubad Talabani said, "Disputes must be settled to improve the region's position in the face of difficulties."
Concerning the discussion on the relations between Erbil and Baghdad, he stated, "A comprehensive and long-term agreement is our first and ultimate option, and it is in the best interests of both Iraqi and Kurdish citizens."
The process of reform, specifically the reforming of the Peshmerga forces, was also a matter discussed during the meeting. Qubad Talabani emphasized, "Political disagreements should not be allowed to impede the reform initiative," while addressing how the reform procedures are proceeding.
Qubad Talabani stated further, "Elections should be held as soon as possible, but it's critical to address the issues and challenges that prevent conducting free and fair elections to increase the public's trust in the elections."
