The Federal Republic of Germany's Order of Merit has been awarded to a Kurdish lecturer who has spent the last 40 years promoting the Kurdish language in Berlin.

Germans and foreigners alike may receive the Order of Merit for accomplishments in the fields of politics, economics, society, or the arts, as well as for a variety of remarkable services to the country in the areas of social, charitable, or philanthropic work. The prize is not monetary.

Dr. Feryad Fazil Omar, founder and director of the Kurdish Studies Institute in Berlin, told PUKMEDIA: "Following a careful assessment, the German authorities have proposed I receive the Order of Merit Award as someone who has made a worthy contribution to human rights in social, artistic, or literary subjects."

In addition, Dr. Feryad Fazil Omar is a university professor in Berlin who has spent more than 40 years at the Free University of Berlin. He has enriched Kurdish literature, history, and language.

Furthermore, he was previously awarded an honorary doctorate by Salahaddin University of Erbil.

The only award in Germany that is given to someone who has served humanity
Doctor Omar stated: "In recognition of a person's collection of work produced in Germany, the German president presents this honor." The Order of Merit is the title given to the honor. Only those who have rendered exceptional service in Germany are eligible for this prize.

He added, "I was recently informed by an official letter from the German government that I will be receiving the award, and thus the lecturers of the Free University of Berlin (Freie Universität Berlin) agreed to arrange a ceremony in the presence of a representative of the German president."
Minister of Culture: He has brought Kurdish intellectual achievements to Europe
Dr. Omar was congratulated by Hama Hama Saeed, the Kurdistan Region's Minister of Culture and Youth, who said: "This prestigious award honors the works of a Kurdish academic figure who has been serving the Kurdish language, literature, and history for more than half a century and carries the intellectual achievements of the Kurds to Europe. "His works are so distinguished that they have interested German academic and official institutions, as well as the president himself."
