KTU: Killing teachers will destroy education and will lead to the extinction of society

The Kurdistan Teachers Union (KTU) condemned on Sunday the killing of two renowned university lecturers in Erbil and said that killing teachers will lead to the abolition of society since it will destroy the value of education.
Both university lecturers Dr. Kawan Ismael, dean of the college of law, and Dr. Idris Hamakhan, a renowned university scholar in Erbil, were assassinated last week by a student whose university transferring request was rejected.
In Kurdistan in general, and in Erbil in particular, it was a truly heartbreaking tragedy. According to a statement by the KTU, killing teachers will lead to the abolition of society since it will destroy the value of education.
It also thinks that this has veered off course and that it will eventually and with much difficulty find its way back. The KTU believes that teachers in academic and educational institutions have been subjected to violence for several years. There have been a few unsightly and repulsive cases reported each year.
Unfortunately, the cases have all been postponed in some fashion. They have caused negative situations to occur in the area often as a result.
Due to this, three years ago, the KTU gave a legal project to the Kurdistan parliament. (9 articles) were part of the project. All that was intended to give instructors protection and immunity. Anyone who threatens teachers is breaking the law. However, the project was dismissed.
The KTU vehemently denounces this crime against science and humanity. Additionally, it offers condolences to the friends, academic associations, and families of the deceased. It enquires the following:
1. The Kurdistan Parliament needs to enhance the teacher’s immunity bill project quickly.
2. Because it has become commonplace and numerous cases, both men and women, are slain daily in this
region, the Government of Kurdistan must outlaw carrying weapons.
3. The courts must use every effort to punish individuals who harm teachers and attack them.
