The Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) said in a statement on the occasion of International Women's Day.

Tomorrow, March 8, 2022, marks International Women's Day, the Political Bureau sent its warmest congratulation to the women in Kurdistan Region. The bureau stated, "On this occasion, we believe that it is necessary to remind everyone that PUK, since the beginning of its struggle, believes that women are part of the political and civil struggle to develop all aspects of the community in Kurdistan."

The Political Bureau affirmed that PUK has made it easier for the movement of women's struggle and thus the formation of the Kurdistan Women Union.

The Bureau admitted that after the uprising, women always fought for their rights and proved their capabilities. Pointing out that late President Mam Jalal was a constant supporter and advocate for the realization of women's rights and demands.

In 2002, President Mam Jalal issued 59 and 62 resolutions, the first of which concerned those who kill women under the pretext of honor, as a criminal, in order to not escape from his crime and secondly to prevent polygamy.

Other than that, the bureau pointed out that PUK created more opportunities for women to participate in many governmental and civil institutions to defend their rights, and raise women's roles.

"Unfortunately, and at present, there is an increase in the statistics of assaulting women, and the indicators are serious and shameful. That is why we intensify our efforts to protect women's rights and stand up to the risks and violations that women face under any pretext," the Political Bureau affirmed.

"Because of the risks and violations that are practiced towards women, we consider them to pose risks to humanity and all centers and institutions, so from now on, these issues will not be acceptable," the bureau continued.

In conclusion, the Political Bureau renewed its pledge to defend women and their rights, saying, "towards more consolidation of the demands and rights of persevering women, and we renew our pledge to the women of Kurdistan to constantly defend them."
