Kurdistan 09:29 AM - 2021-12-16

On Thursday, the Kurdistan Flag Day celebrations started with various events and activities in all the schools of the Kurdistan Region.

The Parliament of Kurdistan had issued a decision in 2009 to consider 17 of December as "flag day" to celebrate the Kurdish flag.

The flag of Kurdistan consists of three colors: red, which symbolizes the sacrifices made by the Kurds in order to lift injustice from their lives, and green symbolizes the beautiful nature of Kurdistan, and finally, white symbolizes peace, security, coexistence, and tolerance.

Moreover, in the middle of the flag is a yellow sun symbolizing the ancient religions of the Kurds, and it has 21 rays.

This number is considered sacred in the Zoroastrian religion, which some belief is the ancient religion of the Kurds. It also symbolizes March 21, the day of Newroz, which is the national holiday of the Kurdish people.
