Turkish authorities arrested Syrian singer Omar Souleyman in Urfa, northern Kurdistan, on Wednesday.
Muhammad Souleyman, son of the Syrian singer, said that his father was arrested on Wednesday morning from his home in the Turkish state of Urfa and taken for investigation.
He revealed that there may be "malicious reports raised against his father to the Turkish authorities."
For his part, the Kurdish artist Jaber Surki described the arrest of Omar Souleyman by the Turkish police as a joke.
Surki told PUKmedia, "Souleyman is a popular singer and has an audience from all nationalities. He presents songs in different Arabic dialects, including Syrian and Iraqi, and he also has songs in the Kurdish language," pointing out that his arrest is a joke.
Surki called on the Turkish authorities to release the singer Omar Souleyman because the man does not belong to any political parties. He is an artist who presents an artistic message and is very popular among Syrians including, Kurds and Arabs, and there is no justification for his arrest.
