The Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority on Thursday confirmed that Arbat Airport is the largest service airport in Iraq after it was expanded and reconstructed.

Nawroz Abdulqadir, the consulting engineer at Arbat Airport, told PUKmedia, "the Arbat Agricultural Airport was chosen as the first agricultural service airport in Iraq, and in comparison to the international airports in the Kurdistan Region, Arbat Airport is the third largest airport, while it is the seventh largest airport in Iraq.

"With the approval of the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority, we were able to expand the width of the airport runways from 25 m to 45 m and the length of the runways from 500 m to 2 km, and this was a major step towards the development of the airport," he added.

Abdulqadir continued, "at the current stage, Arbat Airport is considered among the important airports in the Kurdistan Region after the airports of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, and it is the only service airport and one of the largest airports in Iraq to be used for civil services and agricultural purposes.

He also indicated there are continuous piloting courses in Arbat Airport, and Kurdistan Region and Iraq can benefit from the airport and its services in case disasters, such as floods and fires, happen.

It is noteworthy that the Arbat Airport is located in the Arbat district in the Sulaymaniyah Governorate. Proposed by the nation's late President Mam Jalal, the airport was established in 2005, and in 2018, the airport was expanded and received many international certificates.
