Seher was released in 2017 when he was in prison in Turkey. Demirtas will also granted an award of 5 thousand Euro.

The annual prize is given to revive the heroic struggle against the Nazi occupation in Lyon, France.

Demirtas’s storybook was previously nominated for Prix Médicis Etranger award, one of the most prestigious literary awards, but it was beaten by Rachel Kushner’s “The Mars Room.”
