The International Community towards the Iraqi Kurds

A book “The International Community towards the Iraqi Kurds” presents an analysis of a process of evolution in perception and treatment of the Kurdish minority in Iraq by the international community. It is focused on the period since the collapse of the Ottoman Empire to the end of 2013. A relevant aspect of the analysis is presentation of different forms and mechanisms of the international community participants’ engagement in the Iraqi Kurds’ situation in the above-mentioned period of time. The book is specifically devoted to the questions of security guarantees and international assistance and their political dimension. It examines the motivation of external actors staying behind their interference in the Kurdish situation in Iraq and their attitude towards the Kurdish separatist aspiration. Separate chapters of the publication present activities of two actors, out of many members of the international community, that were especially involved in the Kurdish plight in Iraq: the United States and Turkey. In the conclusion of the book the author is attempting to answer the posed research questions concerning the impact of the international community’s involvement on the political situation of the Iraqi Kurds, their position as a participant in international relations and political prospects of the Kurdistan Region in Iraq.
