Co-president of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Lahur Talabani, regarding the Kurdistan Region Court of Cassation's decision to imprison the journalists and activists in Badinan, on Thursday, said that freedom is the foundation of the Kurdistan Region.

"Freedom fighters in Kurdistan deserve security, respect and support," Talabani said

PUK co-president said that "diplomatic delegations are the creators of the secure areas and the protectors of the Kurdistan Region experience," adding that " Accusing them with baseless crimes is a scandal and will tarnish Kurdistan Region's reputation."

"All political and civilian forces must stand against this horrendous act," Talabani added.

"I ask Kurdistan Region's President to use his powers to free the courts of political interventions, abolish the court decision regarding the imprisoned Badinan youths and go against the harassment of the diplomatic delegations," Talabany said.

The Kurdistan Region Court of Cassation approved the imprisonment of journalists and activists in Badinan for a period of 6 years, despite local and international objections and denunciations.
