Turkey bombards Mawat town of Kurdistan Region

Turkish planes bombed, on Tuesday night, an area near Mawat town of Sulaymaniyah governorate,50.3 km north of Sulaymaniyah city, killing a number of PKK fighters.

Kamaran Hassan, Mayor of Mawat town, said during a special statement to PUKmedia that a car belonging to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) was subjected to air strikes while it was passing near the village of Safra, 70 kilometres north of Sulaymaniyah, which belongs to Mawat town.

He added that the shelling resulted in the death of 5 PKK fighters, and caused great material damage to the village hospital and the homes of the citizens.

He pointed out that a number of media outlets published news about the intention of PKK fighters to head to the village hospital while they were being bombed, but he stressed that this news is incorrect.

He said that many people pass through Safra village and their car was targeted while it was on the road passing through the village and denying that these people where in the village hospital.

The incident is not the first of its kind, as Turkey has bombarded Kurdistan Region areas in a continued regularity, claiming that its target PKK fighters.

Many villagers from the Kurdistan Region have evacuated their villages due to these attacks, as Turkey’s warplanes damage their residential and agricultural lands, even sometimes civilian villagers get killed.
