Qubad Talabani: We are optimistic about reaching an agreement with Baghdad

Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, congratulated, on Saturday, Muslims on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr, expressing optimism in agreement with the new Iraqi Government  to resolve the majority of outstanding issues.

Talabani said in his message:

On the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr, I congratulate everyone from the bottom of my heart with the warmest congratulations, and I hope that this holiday will bring peace and unity to Kurdistan to work together to face the obstacles that stand before us.

Since the beginning of this year, the coronavirus outbreak and the drop in oil prices have had a negative impact on the government’s program for reform, construction, and job offers, and changed the course of our concern to preserving the health of citizens and providing salaries.

With the efforts of doctors, health personnel, security forces, and the commitment of citizens, the outbreak of the corona epidemic has been prevented, but until now there are still ongoing risks of the virus outbreak, and this places us before the responsibility to continue to adhere to the precautionary measures and instructions.

The Kurdistan Regional Government and the efforts of the Prime Minister, myself and our respected ministers, we will work with all our efforts to provide the salaries of employees and address this issue radically, and for the sake of this issue we are urgently working to reach a general and just agreement with the central government.

We have intensified discussions with Baghdad and now, there is more consensus than ever before and we are optimistic about reaching an agreement with the government of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi to address a large part of the outstanding issues.

After 2014, we suffered from many crises, but we were never indifferent, seized all opportunities for reform and calmed political tensions, and we were able, through the unification of the last governmental cabinet in the Kurdistan Region, to maintain political blocs and keep them away from internal problems. Apart from this, the new cabinet in the Kurdistan Regional Government was able to complete the biometric registration of employees and convert part of the government’s work into electronic form, and accomplish the service project and checking the region’s oil imports and the reform law was part of the efforts that its effects is beginning to show to everyone gradually, and we were able to ratify the reform law.

At the present time, along with being busy with providing salaries, the duty of the government is also to build an economic infrastructure, provide the services that are deserved, reform, and eliminating corruption. These steps cannot be accomplished without building confidence, we should not lose opportunities due to political conflicts and unhealthy tensions. We need to create harmony between the parties that make up the government, and between the government and citizens, between the government and the private sector, and finally between the regional and federal governments.

In the end, I hope Eid Al-Fitr will be an occasion for peace, to strengthen the harmony between us. Once again, Happy Eid to all, especially the families of the martyrs. May God accept the worship of the fasting people, and protect you all.
