The Federal Martyrs Foundation confirmed on Sunday that there are more than 10 mass graves of innocent Kurdish civilians in the desert of Samawah.

Dhiaa Karim Tohmeh, Director of the Department of Mass Graves Affairs and Protection at the Federal Martyrs Foundation, told PUKmedia that the Sheikia area in the desert of Samawah is very large and we believe it contains more than 10 mass graves.

He added: "The process of opening the first mass grave was supervised by the national team specialized in the opening of mass graves and consisting of the Martyrs Foundation and the Department of Forensic Medicine with the participation of a delegation from the Ministry of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs in the Kurdistan Regional Government, and the process took place with success as it was planned."

Tohmeh said: "The opening of mass graves should be accelerated because the current period is very suitable to start the operations of opening mass graves. The coming period will witness rainfall and this will damage the mass graves and prevent the allocated teams from opening these graves."
