The UN Special Representative for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, toured the ruins of the landmark Al-Nouri Mosque in Mosul on 19 September 2019.  

 

In a statement on Sunday, September 22, 2019, media office of UNAMI stated that UN Special Representative for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, toured the ruins of the landmark Al-Nouri Mosque in Mosul

 

"The ISIL blew up the structure and its iconic Al-Hadba leaning minaret before its military defeat in Mosul," the statement said, adding "UNESCO is leading a project to restore the historic mosque to its former glory."
