Kosrat Rasul Ali, deputy secretary-general of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), on Saturday issued a statement on the genocide of Yezidi Kurds by ISIS.
"Today we have the fifth anniversary of the occupation of Shangal and the annihilation of the Yezidi Kurds by ISIS , who brutally exterminated this component and massacred the women and children of the Yazidis," said Kosrat Rasul.
He added that Shangal was liberated with the courage of the Peshmerga forces and with the assistance of the international coalition forces. He expressed regret that the Yezidi Kurds did not return to their original areas in the desired manner and that their areas were not reconstructed.
The Deputy Secretary-General of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan said: the federal government and the KRG must fully cooperate in the reconstruction of areas of the Yazidis and return them to their homes.
He pointed out that the international organizations and the International Court of Justice should work to define the crimes of against the Yezidi Kurds as genocide and work to compensate the families of the victims, materially and morally, and expressed his thanks to the Kurdistan Parliament to set August 3rd as the day of the genocide of the Yazidis on the hands of the ISIS terrorists.
