Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed calls for the protection of Sulaymaniyah city's cultural, archeological sites

Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed. member of the Executive Board of the Political Bureau of Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, in a meeting on Wednesday with the Governor of Sulaymaniyah, Dr. haval Abu Bakr, Sulaymaniyah Mayor, Awat Mohammed, and head of Sulaymaniyah Municipality, Twana Kamal and a number of the head of the offices and administrations in the Sulaimaniyah expressed her full support for protecting the historical and cultural sites of the Sulaymaniyah city. 

 

"I reiterate that I will support all government institutions to protect the archaeological sites and streets, to prevent the seizure of land and public property, and its time to work as a team to protect the city's streets." Ms. Shanaz Ibrahim said during the meeting. 

 

Ms. Shanaz expressed her sadness about the destruction of some public sites and old neighbourhoods,  stating that such places are viewed as the corner stone of the Sulaymaniyah city, its our duty to put effort into restoring fame and reputation to the tourist places, renovate old buildings and neighbourhoods and in doing so punish all those that break the law and comes into the way of protecting those places. 

 

During the meeting, discussions were made on the importance of protecting archeological sites of  Sulaymaniyah and the city's masterplan, and the post-effects of the destruction of these places, all the attendees of the meeting agreed that special sessions shall be held for any of the discussed issues, and through serious work and special committees protect the identity and culture of the  city and the memory of the people.

 

The governor, the mayor of Sulaimaniyah, and the head of the offices and administrations praised Ms. Shanaz's continued support, as well as her efforts to gather them in meeting to discuss the sensitive issues of the city and the practical work of making Sulaymaniyah the capital of culture.
