PUK Co-Presidents: constructive and national dialogue between Kurdish and Iraqi parties is necessary for this stage

Bafel Talabani and Lahur Sheikh Jangi, the Co-Presidents of the Patriotic Union Of Kurdistan, on Thursday  received Iraqi politician and Sunni leader Khamis Al-Khanjar, head of the Azm Coalition, at Dabashan.

 

In the meeting, attended by Rafaat Abdullah, member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s (PUK) Executive Body, and Shalaw Kosrat, member of the PUK Leadership Council, they exchanged views on the current situation and the political developments in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as the topic of elections in Iraq. 

 

During the meeting, they all agreed on the need to expedite the necessary steps to pass the current crises’ and to develop appropriate plans and programs to work together for the future, stressing that constructive and national dialogue between the Kurdish and Iraqi parties is necessary for this stage. They also emphasized the necessity of finding common visions to protect the public interest and maintain stability in the country.

 

The Co-Presidents affirmed the PUK's determination to strengthen relations with all parties and expressed their readiness to work jointly with friends in Baghdad to preserve the common themes between them and to activate the spirit of coexistence and acceptance of one another. 

 

"We condemn politics that are based on nationalistic, minority-majority or self-imposed policies, and we consider them as reasons for deepening the problems and disagreements," the Co-Presidents said.

 

The Co-Presidents also emphasized the role of the parties in providing a suitable ground for the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections, so that a fair democratic process can be conducted on time to bring real change and reform in all areas, to provide stability and a better livelihood for the citizens.

 

During the meeting, the Co-Presidents pointed to the formation of the Kurdistan Coalition between the PUK and the Gorran Movement on behalf of national unity and one Kurdish voice in Baghdad. 

 

"We also reiterated that after the elections, the Kurdistan Coalition and the Kurdistan and Iraqi forces can meet within a broad national arena, to protect our highest interests, establish new policies and serve the people and country together," the Co-Presidents added.
