' Patriotic Union is devoid from limiting freedom of expression' says Bafel Talabani

Kurdistan Region - Sulaymaniyah, on Thursday Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Co-president Bafel Talabani, received the Canadian ambassador to Iraq, Ulric Shannon, in Dabashan.

 

During the meeting, they discussed the results of the visit of the prominent delegation of the Patriotic  Union to Baghdad and the meeting with the three presidencies, political parties, ambassadors, and diplomats along with the unity of the Kurdish authorities and the alliance of efforts to strengthen the position of the Kurdistan Region were also discussed.

 

Bafel Talabani indicated that Baghdad has its political importance and they will increase their diplomatic activities in Baghdad and will always try to achieve their rights and protect the higher interests of our people.

 

He added, "with our friends, we will be in contact and welcome if any force or party that wants reform and believes in dialogue and understanding. A radical solution to the outstanding problems must be found, and we must all direct Iraq towards safety, and this requires the agreement and unity of all parties."

 

Regarding the upcoming Iraqi elections, the Co-president of the Patriotic Union said, " we announced to all parties that we are with fair and transparent elections in their time and provide the appropriate ground for political stability and control of differences."

 

In another aspect of the meeting, freedom of expression, political sanctions, and the arrest of Badinan journalists and activists were discussed. 

 

Bafel Talabani explained that the theme of the Patriotic Union is devoid of limiting freedom of expression and an appropriate ground must be provided for journalists to carry out their work professionally and not to exceed the limits of personal freedom, because of one of the pillars of developing democracy Kurdistan Region Freedom of expression and the presence of an independent and free media.
