Iraqi PM, British Foreign Secretary discuss bilateral relations

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi on Tuesday welcomed British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab and his delegation.

 

The meeting saw the discussion of bilateral relations between the two countries, and ways to strengthen them, especially in the post-military cooperation within the international coalition to defeat ISIS, with the aim of developing economic, cultural and health cooperation, in addition to cooperation in the field of investment, and providing the conditions for major British companies to work in Iraq.

 

According to statement of his media office, al-Kadhimi stressed during that the signing of the document of strategic political cooperation between the two countries is the culmination of the development of the bilateral relations, expressing appreciation for Britain's stance in support of Iraq in its war on terrorism, and welcoming the British government's support for Iraq's efforts in the field of economic reform.

 

According to the statement, the prime minister reiterated the importance of coordinating work with international supporters to implement the upcoming elections by assigning the work of the Electoral Commission and providing it with international observers.

 

For his part, Raab conveyed the greetings of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to the Government and people of Iraq, reiterating the UK's full support for Iraq and the government's efforts to enforce the rule of law and stability, as well as supporting its growing regional role in alleviating conflicts and prevailing the logic of wisdom rather than ongoing conflicts.

 

Dominic Raab said Iraq's regional leadership role is evidence of the Iraqi government's future vision of the nature of stability, calm factors and ways to strengthen it in the region.
