The Ministry of Peshmerga in the Kurdistan Regional Government on Tuesday published an official statement about the martyrdom of the Peshmerga Razwan Muhammad Ali in the Sharanish area of the Duhok Governorate's Zakho district.

The ministry said, "In continuation of the unfortunate events a few days ago, Peshmerga Razwan Muhammad Ali was martyred today, Tuesday, at 7:30 in the Sharanish area in the Darkari sub-district of Zakho district."

The statement added, "during the past three days, unfortunate incidents of this nature occurred for the second time … the Ministry of Peshmerga strongly condemns such acts, which ultimately serve the enemies of our people."

"We call on the coalition and the federal government to highlight its effective and influential role in stopping these abuses, protecting the border areas in the Kurdistan Region, and taking its role alongside the Peshmerga forces."

The ministry said, "the Kurdistan Workers’ Party forces must be aware that with such actions they will not achieve any goal and that our people will pay for that, and that the Peshmerga forces will be at the level of the great responsibility that falls on their shoulders in protecting the cities, villages, and people of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Region’s gains in the government, parliament, and institutions."

"Protecting the sovereignty of the territory of the Kurdistan Region is our priority and does not allow any force or party to put the borders of the Kurdistan Region in danger. For this reason, we believe that the Kurdistan Region has the right to announce to all democratic forces and neighboring countries, that the duty of the Peshmerga is to protect peace and freedom and to fight ISIS terrorists, not fighting a war they don't want," the ministry added.

The Ministry of Peshmerga sent its condolences to the family and relatives of the martyr Razwan, and wished a speedy recovery to the wounded in the recent events.

The PKK denied the allegation, saying they had only fired warning shots to stop Peshmerga forces from nearing their position.

Border regions in Duhok Governorate are hot spots for Turkey and PKK conflicts. The Turkish army began military operations inside the Kurdistan Region more than 40 days ago.

The Turkish army's operations in the Kurdistan Region caused great damage to the border areas as they caused the evacuation of dozens of villages, killing of civilians, and burning thousands of acres of farmer's lands.
