The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc on Tuesday issued a statement, in which it expressed its concern over obstructing the electoral process in Kirkuk governorate, as follows:

In conjunction with the approaching date of the Parliament elections, we began to see irresponsible statements by some Arab and Turkmen parties in Kirkuk governorate that fall within the interference in the affairs of the Independent High Electoral Commission.

In view of these statements, we express our concern about obstructions to the electoral process, and we believe that the Independent High Electoral Commission is an independent and impartial professional body that is exclusively responsible for organizing, implementing and supervising elections and referendums, and that the Board of Commissioners is responsible for the general policy of the electoral process in its democratic form.

We affirm our commitment to all the legal and administrative procedures issued by them to ensure fair and transparent elections, but we call on the commission not to listen to statements and dissonant voices that do not serve societal peace and do not have a serious intention to abide by the rights and entitlements of the components, especially as we follow the changes that are taking place in the office of the Independent High Electoral Commission, in Kirkuk governorate, including removing the Kurdish component in the departments  until the representation of the Kurdish component in the office of the IHEC in Kirkuk reached only 25% and changing the director of the office without any legal reasons mentioned. Therefore, we see the need for international monitoring and specialized organizations to ensure the impartiality of the elections.
