On Sunday, thousands of students flocked to high school examination centers in the cities of Hasakah, Derbasiya, Qamishli and Girke Lege, northeastern Syria, to sit their exam for the first subject of the Autonomous Administration curriculum.

AANES General Board of Education set the exam dates for preparatory and secondary schools with both scientific and literary branches in the Jazira Region on June 6.

Four thousand students took the science exam for the scientific branch, and geography for the literary branch according to the Arabic and Kurdish language curricula, while the preparatory certificate exams will start tomorrow, Monday.

Suha Barakat, from the Examinations Committee and spokeswoman for the Directorate of Education in the town of Girke Lege, said that they have designated 14 centers for middle school exams and ten centers for secondary school in the town.

She added to North Press that the Girke Lege centers are designated for students from five regions, namely Derik, Girke Lege, Tel Kocher, Jaza’a and Jil Agha.

Two medical points have been allocated to the centers, in coordination with Health Board to take preventative measures within the exam halls.

There are also security committees in front of the exam centers to provide security and safety for students, according to Barakat.

The total number of students who will set their exams on June 6, is 11,000 including 7,000 preparatory students and 4,000 high school students.

The students are distributed in 64 examination centers in four cities: Qamishli, Girke Lege, Derbasiya and Hasakah, according to the Examination Committee.

AANES has been teaching its curriculum since the academic year of 2015/2016. It was first applied from the first to third classes, and then to other grades in succession.

This year, examination of general certification will be held for the first time in Jazira region, at a time when the same experience was applied in Kobani and Afrin before 2018.

The AANES education system focuses on mother tongue education (Kurdish, Arabic, and Syriac) in the first grade, with the addition of local languages in later grades and then the English language.
