This Friday afternoon, a massive fire broke out in the Shariya camp for the Yazidi IDPs in Duhok governorate, the fire destroyed more than 400 tents.

Salah Shankali, one of the camp residents, told PUKmedia, that a huge fire broke out in the camp and spread to 3 areas in it, pointing out that each area includes about 150 tents, stressing that no casualties have been recorded so far as a result of the fire, noting that the civil defense teams have reached the camp working to put out the fire.

According to our correspondent, Dohuk Governor Ali Tatar arrived at the scene of the accident to follow it closely.

According to information obtained by PUKmedia, the IDPs in the camp organized a sit-in to protest their conditions, as they assert that the camp is exposed to similar incidents every summer due to the poor tents in which they live, calling on the Kurdistan Regional Government to solve the problem.

Shariya camp is located in Dohuk governorate, and was prepared in 2014 for the Yazidis who were displaced to Dohuk after the ISIS invaded Sinjar district.
