Kurdistan Region Parliament, Environmental Organizations Discuss Turkish tree-felling process in border areas

Kurdistan Region - Erbil, on Wednesday different committees from Kurdistan Region Parliament discussed the matter of tree felling process by Turkey and issues of environmental pollution with the Kurdistan Board of Environment Protection and Improvement.

 

In a statement, The Kurdistan Parliament said that: to follow up and find appropriate solutions to protect the land and environment of Kurdistan, a delegation of Kurdistan environment organizations, which represents more than 100 civil society organizations, visited the Parliament of Kurdistan and the delegation was received by the committees (Health and environment, Culture, civil society, sports and youth, Municipalities, transportation and services, interior, security, and local affairs) in the Kurdistan Parliament.

 

During the meeting, the visiting delegation submitted a memorandum to the committee presidencies, and they discussed the need to protect the environment and pointed to the risks of environmental pollution in the border areas, which are constantly bombarded by Turkish forces, and the problems of low water levels in the Lower Zab River and Darbandikhan Dam due to water cuts from the Iranian side, demanding the necessity of serious work, implementing important steps, and quickly finding solutions to these environmental and political problems.

 

On the other hand, the presidencies of the parliamentary committees condemned all Turkish attacks on the lands and environment of Kurdistan, expressing their full support for the memorandum submitted by the delegation, assuring that the Presidency of the Parliament of Kurdistan and the various parliamentary blocs will have their position and this issue will be on the Parliament's table to make a decision and take appropriate decisions about it.
