The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has launched an operation with the support of the International Coalition to eliminate ISIS activities in Wadi al-Ajeej of Syria's in Deir Ezzor, Coalition Spokesman, Col. Wayne Marotto, said on Monday
"The SDF, w/the Coalition’s support, launched an op in Wadi al-Ajeej to curb terror activities & bust Daesh (ISIS) smuggling networks for WPNs & terrorist elements. We continue to enabling our SDF partners’ efforts in the fight to defeat daesh thru air support & ISR missions," said Col. Wayne Marotto in a tweet on twitter.
According to a statement from the Media Office of the SDF, the operation, which will last for four days, began in the early hours of the morning, with several missile strikes carried out by the Coalition forces timed with the launch of flares and the intense flight of reconnaissance aircraft.
The SDF and Syrian regime forces control Deir ez-Zor province, eastern Syria, which is still a hotspot for ISIS activities.
ISIS occupied large swathes of land in Syria and Iraq in 2014. The group was declared territorially defeated in Iraq in 2017 and lost its last stronghold in Syria in 2019. The militants, however, remain a threat on both sides of the neighboring countries, carrying out bombings, hit-and-run attacks, and abductions.
