Nechirvan Barzani, President of Kurdistan Region, will visit Sulaymaniyah on Tuesday and meet with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) officials.

According to the information available to PUKmedia, President Nechirvan Barzani will meet PUK Officials at Dabashan Hill of Sulaymaniyah.

The meeting will discuss unifying the Kurdish house and strengthening relations between the Kurdish parties, especially the ongoing preparations for Iraqi elections scheduled for October 10, 2021.

According to the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission, 146 candidates in the Kurdistan Region are preparing to compete for 46 parliamentary seats in the legislative elections to be held in Iraq next October.

The High Electoral Commission said earlier this week that the elections this time will take the form of electoral zones, and the Kurdistan Region has been divided into 12 districts, 4 in Erbil, 5 in Sulaymaniyah, and 3 in Duhok.

"53 people nominated themselves for the elections in Erbil, 28 in Dohuk, and 65 in Sulaymaniyah," the commission added.

Erbil will get 16 seats, Sulaymaniyah gets 18 seats, and Duhok 12 seats, and of the total of these seats there will be two for the Christian component.

The PUK and the Movement for Change party have formed a unified electoral alliance to participate in one list in the upcoming parliamentary elections of Iraq scheduled for October 10, the announcement was made on Saturday late night.

Holding early elections in Iraq has been a major demand of the popular movement, which led to widespread protests in the country since October 2019, and succeeded in removing former Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi at the end of the same year.
