Qubad Talabani stresses the need for a plan to allocate a budget to cope with drought

Kurdistan Region - Monday, the Kurdistan Regional Government held a special meeting, in the respect of Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Regional Government, in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, and supervisors of the administration of Raparin, and Garmian and the governors of Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Dohuk and Halabja to discuss ways to confront the drought in Kurdistan.

 

During the meeting, the impact of the lack of rain and drought in different areas in the Kurdistan Region was highlighted and the Kurdistan Regional Government’s plan and the relevant authorities to confront the problem, by allocating a special budget, giving priority to providing drinking water, paying attention to agricultural and industrial projects, and establishing small dams to save water. To take advantage of them in the field of agriculture.

 

It was also decided during the meeting, to discuss the case with the federal government, to address the challenges of drought, as the meeting stressed, that the Kurdistan Regional Government must, and through its diplomatic channels, coordinate with neighboring countries regarding water releases, and alleviate the burden of drought and the scarcity of rains in the Kurdistan Region.
