On Saturday, a special ceremony began in the Armenian capital, Yerevan, to mark the 106th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

Flower wreaths were laid at the Armenian Genocide Monument in the capital Yerevan, in the presence of a large number of diplomats, parliamentarians, representatives of world countries, and citizens, as the ceremony will continue until Saturday evening.

Last night, the Armenians lit 106 torches in the capital, Yerevan, to represent the number of years that passed since the extermination they were subjected to at the hands of the Ottoman Empire.

Much like the Kurds who survived genocide attempts by the fallen Iraqi Baath regime, the Armenians also were victims of a genocide. The Armenian Genocide was the systematic mass murder and ethnic cleansing of around 1 million ethnic Armenians from Asia Minor and adjoining regions by the Ottoman Empire and its ruling party, the Committee of Union and Progress (CUP), during World War I.

The Kurds however lost over 180,000 lives during the Anfal campaign and the chemical attack of the fallen Iraqi Baath regime.

Sweden, Norway, and the United Kingdom officially recognize the Anfal campaign against the Kurdish people as genocide but there is still much more to be done for the crime to be recognized as genocide in more superpower countries.

When asked about how the French parliament is supporting Kurds by PUKmedia team in Yerevan, French MP Marguerite Deprez-Audebert said: "All we want is peace and when we came here, we wanted to prove that French MPs want peace in Iraq."

"We know that your country has seen a lot of difficulties but we want to prove that we support you," she added.

For her part, the Lebanese Minister of Youth and Sports affirmed the necessity of compensation for all peoples who have been subjected to genocide and international recognition of these crimes against humanity.

Ohanian said during a special statement to PUKmedia from the Armenian capital Yerevan: "We support the rights of all persecuted peoples who have been subjected to genocide and massacres."

"We are participating in the anniversary of the genocide crimes to which the Armenians were subjected, and during these decrees, we call for international recognition of that genocide and we demand compensation for those affected," she added.
