P.U.K 09:52 AM - 2021-04-24.
Lahur Sheikh Jangi, the Co-Leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, issued on Saturday, a statement marking the anniversary of the two crimes of bombing the town of Qaladze, north of Sulaymaniyah, and the University of Sulaymaniyah.
The text of the statement follows:
"Today we commemorate the martyrs of Qaladze, Slemani University, and the uprising of the city’s resilient people as we pay our respects to the immortal martyrs. 47 years ago, on April 24th, 1974 the city of Qaladze and Slemani University were bombed by Baath warplanes with the banned international weapon of Napalm.
A large number of civilians, students, professors, and employees of the University of Slemani, which was relocated to Qaladze at the time, were martyred. On April 24th, 1982 on the eighth anniversary of the bombings, the people of this heroic city rose up against the tyrannical institutions of the Baath regime. To fight the injustice and oppression, they protested against the deplorable institutions of the Baath regime, but were confronted with bullets from the Baath intelligence personnel. As a result, two brave women, Mother Amina and Sister Snawbar were killed. Tens of others were injured, and hundreds were arrested. Later in 1989, the Baath regime destroyed the city, forcing the resilient people into camps in Erbil and Slemani.
This vicious and inhuman crime by the regime, like the other crimes of Anfal and chemical bombardments, were committed with the purpose of genocide and destruction of the Kurdish people, because they carried a Kurdish identity. We reiterate that the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan will continue to serve Qaladze, Pishdar, Bitwen and its heroic people. We call on the Federal Government to compensate the martyrs' families financially and morally. We call on the relevant parties in the Kurdistan Regional Government to provide more reconstruction and services to the area and respond to demands of their people.
We salute the souls of the martyrs of Qaladze and all the martyrs of Kurdistan’s path of freedom."
