Sulaymaniyah - Wednesday, the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan congratulated the Kurdistan Press Day, expressing hope that this occasion will be a depot to review the Kurdish press and media to address the deficiencies.

In a statement, The Political Bureau said that:  on the occasion of the arrival of the Kurdish Press Day and the 123rd anniversary of the issuance of the first issue of (Kurdistan) newspaper as the first Kurdish newspaper by Prince Medhat Badrakhan, we extend our warmest congratulations to Kurdish journalists in all parts of Kurdistan and any part of the world who perform their duties and provide service to the Kurdish press.

The Politburo added that April 22, 1898, was an important historical shift and a new phase of the Kurdish people's struggle. The Badrakhans resorted to publishing a newspaper to defend the people of Kurdistan and struggle to obtain their legitimate demands, and this is a new form of struggle.

The statement continued that while we salute this occasion, especially with the rapid development in technology and the entry of Kurdish journalistic work into a new stage, and with progress and a positive answer, there are negatives that must be addressed and followed up.

The statement added, "We hope that this anniversary will become a station for reviewing the press and media in Kurdistan, in order to address deficiencies and better implement professional, national and democratic tasks."

The statement concluded by saying "once again that we congratulate the journalists of Kurdistan, wishing them success and happiness, and a loyal greeting we send to the journalists who sacrificed their lives for the sake of Kurdish journalism and the freedom of our people".
