The Independent High Electoral Commission of Iraq has announced on Sunday that the upcoming parliamentary election will be held at the specified time and there is no way to change that time.

In a statement, the Iraqi Electoral Commission has pointed out that efforts are underway to hold a clean and transparent election, which will satisfy the Iraqi street and the international community.

It also explained that 253 parties and 478 candidates have been registered to participate in the elections so far.

The commission reiterated that there is no way to delay the process of the previous election and that the process will be held at its scheduled time on October 10 this year.

It also revealed that the registration of parties will continue until May 1, and 63 requests have been received for the registration of new parties.

Nationwide demonstrations protesting widespread institutional corruption, chronic shortfalls in public services, and a poor standard of living began in October 2019 and led to the resignation of the previous prime minister and administration.

Hundreds were killed in the protests that still occasionally take place in some provinces.
