On the occasion of the Kurdistan Environment Day, which falls on the 16th of April of each year, and within the activities of the Green Kurdistan Association in cooperation with the Sulaymaniyah Gardens Directorate, 300 wild birds, including partridges, were released at the Hawari Shar Park in Sulaymaniyah.

"Green spaces and forests are increasing in Kurdistan every year, which is vital and good, and wild animals are now safer than before because of the rule of law on preventing illegal hunting of wild animals and the return of life in nature," said Haiman Kamar Khan, spokesperson for forestry police in Sulaymaniyah.

"The citizen's role is important in raising awareness and limiting the phenomenon of hunting because we used to live on this land, and we must join hands to make our green nature more beautiful by preventing tree cutting, the sustainability of the green land, and the cleanliness of the environment," he added.

April 16, coincides with the Kurdistan Environment Day, which is also the day that chemical weapons were used against the Kurds for the first time.

The day was set by the Kurdistan Parliament as a tribute to the anniversary of bombing the Balisan and Sheikh Wasanan regions of the Kurdistan Region with chemical weapons by the fallen Iraqi Baath regime, the first chemical bombing against the people of Kurdistan.

Annually, events and seminars are held in the Kurdistan Region that highlight the importance of protecting Kurdistan's environment and its nature, after thousands of villages witnessed burning, extermination and poisonous gas pollution during Saddam's wars against the Kurds.
