Plasschaert condemns Erbil attack

Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) has condemned Wednesday's attack on Erbil International Airport.
"Last night’s events in the Kurdistan Region are another example of reckless attempts to inflame tensions and threaten Iraq’s stability. We condemn these acts of violence and urge the Federal and Kurdistan governments to act swiftly and in unison to prevent further escalation," said Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, UNAMI representative, in a tweet on Thursday.
A powerful explosion was heard near Erbil International Airport on Wednesday night, while the Ministry of Interior of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) confirmed that the sound of the explosion was caused by a drone carrying high-explosive TNT, targeting a base of the international coalition forces at the airport.
