The Ministry of Education in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) issued a number of decisions regarding the resumption of studies in governmental and private schools and institutes, most notably was to continue school studies online.

The Ministry of Education said in a statement that the study in all public and private schools and institutes will be resumed on April 17 online or electronically in a mandatory form from the first grade to the 11th grade.

The ministry added in its statement that before conducting the quarterly examinations if health conditions permit, the exams will be conducted at schools by the shifting system, and if health conditions do not allow, the exams will be conducted electronically as well.

According to the guideline issued by the ministry, institutes that have practical classes can teach those classes inside the classrooms but in accordance with a special schedule that will be issued by the General Directorate of institutes, with following health procedures.

The ministry also instructed schools and institutes to form committees specialized in the electronic study system. These committees will organize the study and submit their weekly report to the education directorates in the governorates, districts, and sub-districts.

The KRG has recently closed school doors again after the surge in coronavirus cases following Newroz (Kurdish new year) celebrations. School doors were opened in early February.

So far, the Kurdistan Region has recorded over 132,000 coronavirus cases, more than 113,900 recoveries, and over 3,700 deaths from the virus.
