First batch of the Pfizer vaccine arrives in Sulaymaniyah

The first batch of the Pfizer vaccine arrived in Sulaymaniyah on Monday, after the vaccine was provided by the Iraqi Ministry of Health.

 

Bestwn Rafiq, Director of the Shahid Hemin Hospital for treating people with Coronavirus, told PUKmedia: "We received the first batch of the Pfizer anti-coronavirus vaccine, which is 1170 doses."

 

He added that the vaccine was provided by the Federal Ministry of Health and will be distributed initially to health workers who are fighting the coronavirus in the first rows and then it will be distributed according to the instructions available.

 

On Sunday, Iraq has received 50,000 doses of American Pfizer vaccine and 200,000 of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine.

 

Iraq has previously received 336,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 50,000 of the Chinese-made Sinopharm and the vaccination campaign was launched through 700 outlets across the country. 

 

Iraq expects to receive 21 million and a half doses of vaccines from Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Sinopharm this month.

 

So far, Iraq has recorded over 925,000 coronavirus cases with more than 814,000 recoveries and over 14,700 deaths from the virus.
