Kosrat Rasul: We decided to stop the enemy in Kore

Mr. Kosrat Rasul Ali, head of the Supreme Political and Interest Council of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), issued a statement on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the epic of the Kore region near Erbil, during which the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces broke the thorn of the defunct Baathist regime.

 

Regarding the story of the epic Mr. Kosrat Rasul Ali said in a  statement: 

 

30 years ago, when the masses of the people of Kurdistan were inhaling the air of freedom and liberation from the Baath and celebrating the victory of the uprising (the Kurdish uprising of 1991), the defunct Baathist regime launched a counterattack to control the cities of Kurdistan with the participation of a large number of special forces which prompt the people to flee from their areas in a mass exodus towards the borders.

 

On that day, as the cities were empty of their inhabitants, from the borders the people of Kurdistan were rejecting the rule of the Baath and the return of the occupation, and we in the Kurdistan Front were able to break the thorn of the regime and defeat the massive attack launched by its military forces.

 

30 years ago, when we were all happy with the victory of the uprising and proud that we could cleanse the cities of Kurdistan from Baathism, the Ba'athist forces launched a counterattack to occupy Kurdistan again, and we, as a historical trust given to us and from the perspective of our sense of responsibility, decided to stop the enemy in the Kore region, and we were able with my comrades in the Peshmerga forces and the Kurdistan Front to defeat the attack launched by the Ba'athist regime forces, and this historical epic is covered with the blood of 11 heroic martyrs.

 

On the memory of this great epic, I assure that in that day, the days of the uprising, the liberation of Kurdistan, and the day of defending our gains, we won thanks to our unity and defeated the enemy together. Today and in the future, only with unity we can only reach our goals and address our problems and struggle to consolidate the goals that we aimed for and made great sacrifices for them.

It is noteworthy that on March 5, 1991, the people of Kurdistan rose against the regime of the fallen dictator Saddam Hussein, as the Peshmerga forces and the people of Kurdistan controlled heroic epics that led to the liberation of Kurdistan from the grip of the Baathists.
