Renowned Kurdish poet Dilzar dies at 101 years

The renowned Kurdish poet Ahmed Dilzar, died on Saturday in the city of Erbil, at the age of 101.

 

The poet Ahmed Dilzar's real name was Ahmed Mustafa Ahmed and he was born in 1920 in the town of Koya, 76 kilometers east of Erbil.

 

At the age of 7, he learned reading and writing from Mullah Asa'ad and after that his father registered him in elementary school in 1929 in Koya and finished intermediate school in the same city. He has poetry collections in both Arabic and Kurdish.

 

He wrote his first poem in 1940, joined the military service in the midst of World War II and stopped writing for 4 years. In 1944, he moved to the southern Iraqi city of Basra and after a while he returned to Koya.

 

He was fluent in the Kurdish, Arabic and Persian languages. He was a patriotic man who loved his home land he spent most of his life in prison cells and as a Peshmerga fighting for his people for that he was deprived of seeing his family for 15 years.

 

Qubad Talabani: The departure of Ahmed Dilzar is a sad event for everyone

 

Qubad Talabani, Deputy PM of the Kurdistan Regional Government, sent a message of condolence to the family of the late poet.

 

Talabani said in his condolence message:

 

The family of the late Mr. Ahmed Delzar

 

It is with great sadness and sorrow that we have received the news of the departure of the great Kurdish poet (Ahmed Dilzar). 

 

On this painful occasion, we extend our condolences and sympathy to you, and share your grief.

 

The late (Ahmed Mustafa), known as (Ahmed Dilzar), was from an educated family, and he devoted most of his life to the Peshmerga, imprisonment and displacement, and his departure is a sad event for everyone.

 

May he rest in peace...
