The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has created obstacles in the process of distributing land plots -in Kurdistan Region's Garmian Administration- on the families of martyrs, Anfal, and former political prisoners of the fallen Iraqi Baath regime based on a decision signed by Qubad Talabani, Deputy PM of the KRG.

This decision was highly welcomed by the political and public circles, the families of the martyrs, the Anfal, and the former political prisoners, who confirmed that this decision came to do justice to them, but the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)'s Ministry of Municipalities, instead of speeding up the completion of the transactions of the families of the martyrs, Anfal, and political prisoners, began to create excuses and put obstacles in the way of implementing this decision, under various unjust pretexts.

Taha Hama Amin, representative of martyrs, the Anfal, and the former political prisoners, said in a press conference that Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the KRG, continues to serve the families of the martyrs, Anfal, and former political prisoners, and he has issued an order to distribute residential land plots on us in the Garmian area.

"Unfortunately, the Ministry of Municipalities, instead of speeding up the completion of the transactions of the families of the martyrs, Anfal, and political prisoners, began to create excuses and put obstacles in the way of implementing this decision, under various incorrect pretexts," he said.

He added: "The ballot for receiving residential lands was conducted transparently without any objection or problem, and upon reaching the completion of the final transactions and handing over the lands to the beneficiaries, the Ministry of Municipalities began to obstruct the implementation of the decision."

"What the Ministry of Municipalities announced in its statement is not true, in whole and detail, and we have made many sacrifices for the freedom of our people, and it is our right to receive residential lands, but unfortunately the Ministry of Municipalities neglected our sacrifices and began to obstruct the implementation of the decision," he pointed out.

For his part, Samir Hawrami, spokesman for the Deputy Prime Minister, said during a special statement to PUKmedia that according to the law, the families of martyrs, Anfal, and political prisoners must receive a monthly grant and a residential plot of land in appreciation of their sacrifices.

"From the perspective of achieving equitable justice for the families of the martyrs, Anfalin and political prisoners, the Deputy Prime Minister of the KRG on February 21, 2019, when he took over the acting prime minister position during the previous cabinet of the KRG signed a decision to distribute 11,142 plots of land to the families of the martyrs, Anfal, and former political prisoners who did not benefit from government grants in all governorates of the Kurdistan Region," he said.

"The decision was implemented in most areas after the end of all legal procedures, but in Garmian the process of sorting the lands was delayed, and upon the completion of the sorting and the preparation of the lands, they were distributed on the families of the martyrs and Anfalin several days ago in the Garmian area and through a transparent ballot," he added.
