Iraqi President: Pope Francis visit represented a deep humanitarian message of solidarity to the Iraqi people

The President of the Republic, Dr. Barham Salih, on Tuesday at the Peace Palace in Baghdad, received the Vatican State’s Ambassador to Iraq Archbishop Mitja Leskovar. 

 

At the start of the meeting, the ambassador conveyed the greetings of His Holiness Pope Francis to the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, where he delivered a written message from His Holiness, expressing his thanks and gratitude to the people and the Iraqi government for the warm greeting and preparations that took place during his visit to Iraq. 

 

Stressing that Iraq, with its civilization, history, and culture, can play An influential role in regional and international issues, pointing out that its cultural, religious, and ethnic diversity are additional elements of its strength, affirming its support for Iraq and its people in establishing security, stability, and peace.

 

Adding to that, President conveyed the ambassador his greetings to His Holiness, pointing out the importance of his visit to Iraq that included Baghdad, Najaf, Dhi Qar, Erbil, and Mosul, praising his support and continuous interest in the Iraqis.

 

President Barham Salih said that the visit of His Holiness the Pope represented a deep humanitarian message of solidarity to the Iraqi people, who are looking forward to overcoming difficulties, establishing their security and stability, and enhancing their coexistence among all their factions, and spreading the spirit of coexistence and peace in the country and the whole region, pointing to the importance of maintaining the enthusiasm and spirit of optimism that engulfed his visit to Iraqi Muslims, Christians and all sects for peace.
