Global Coalition: We respect the sovereignty of Iraq and our mission is to defeat ISIS

Speaking to the Iraqi News Agency, the spokesman of the global coalition against ISIS, Col. Wayne Marotto, said on Saturday that the global coalition operates in Iraq at the invitation of the Iraqi Government, with full respect for Iraq's sovereignty. 

 

"We are working in close coordination with both the ISF & Peshmerga thru our joint mission to #DefeatDeash in designated areas in Iraq & Syria," he said.

 

He pointed out that "the mission of the Joint Task Force, in cooperation with the Iraqi security forces and the Peshmerga, is to defeat the terrorist ISIS and its remnants in specific areas in Iraq and Syria," noting that "this follows conditions for follow-up operations that will increase regional stability."

 

The international coalition had previously denied the presence of combat forces in Iraq.

 

The media office of the Joint Task Force, Operation Inherent Resolve of the Global Coalition, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that the talk about the arrival of combat forces to Iraq is untrue.

 

He added, "All personnel in Iraq are advisers working under the orders and command of the Iraqi Joint Operations and the Iraqi government."
