A Kurdish woman from Darbandikhan town, 67 Km south of Sulaymaniyah, didn't let unemployment stop her from finding a source of revenue for herself, and instead of waiting for someone to employ her, she decided to pursue her own dream and turn her hobby into a career to provide for herself and her family as well.

"It was my childhood dream to become a woman who has her own independent business and I have always strived for that," said Kochar Jalil Ali who makes potteries and sells them to make a living.

Kochar told PUKmedia that she has begun her career 3 years ago. She said: "Before, I was just making pots and decoration objects for friends and relatives but then I made my business bigger and developed it to take orders from everyone. I use fabrics, cement, and other materials and put them in molds."

She added: "I make candy and sweets pots, flowers, and sitting tables... I make small decoration objects, working with soil is my hobby... I aim to serve in the local products sector. I believe that you can serve your community in any field that you are good at."

Kochar said that Kurdish women have always been pioneers in many important fields of life and if they are supported financially and morally, they can do great things.

Kochar has participated in many festivals and exhibitions and the most recent of them was the Local Products Festival that was held in Darbandikhan a few days ago in which over 100 local products and crafts were exhibited to market them and show them to potential buyers.

Kochar has many talents including crochets, tailoring, and cooking and baking. She also loves gardening and has experience in that area as well.

She says that her hobbies became her career and a source of revenue.
