Kurdish artist Ghazi Bamarni's statue uncovered in Sulaymaniyah

In the presence of the Minister of Culture of the Kurdistan Region, The Sulaymaniyah Governor, and many artists and intellectuals, the statue of the late artist Ghazi Bamarni was uncovered on Saturday in the city of Sulaymaniyah, the capital of culture in the Kurdistan Region.

 

On the matter, Niyaz Nuri, captain of the Kurdistan Artist Syndicate, told PUKmedia: " Today and in a special ceremony in front of the School Activities building, we uncovered the statue of the Kurdish artist Ghazi Bamarni's statue in the presence of  the Hama Hamasaeed, Minister of Culture of the Kurdistan Region, Dr. Haval Abubakir, the Sulaymaniyah Governor, and many artists and intellectuals."

 

She said that the initiative was her idea and the Margret Education Community had sponsored it.

 

The statue was made by the Kurdish artist Rangin Omer.

 

Kurdish artist Ghazi Bamarni, known as Dr. Ghazi, was born in 1942 in the Bamarne town of Duhok Governorate. He finished school in Amedi district of Duhok. After that, he traveled to Baghdad and graduated from the Fine Arts Institute. From 1971-1977, he lived in Sulaymaniyah and was one of the founders of Sulaymaniyah Acting Team that have produced some of the best and most famous plays and TV dramas in Kurdish media. He died of illness on December 16, 2020 in Paris.
