33 years pass over bombing of Sewsenan with banned weapons

Today, March 22, marks the anniversary of the bombing of Sewsenan area with internationally banned chemical weapons by the fallen Iraqi Baath regime, five days after the bombing of the city of Halabja with the same weapons.
The chemical bombing of Sewsenan area which resulted in the death of 69 civilians and the wounding of 30 others.
It is noteworthy that Sewsenan area is located within the Qardagh district, 42.5 km south of Sulaymaniyah. It includes about 18 villages, and the number of residents of the district exceeds 2,000 people.
On March 16, 1988, just 5 days before the Kurdish new year of Newroz, the city of Halabja was subjected to the most heinous crime against humanity, which is the bombing of the city with chemical weapons by the fallen Iraqi Baath regime.
Over 5,000 innocent people were martyred as a result of this crime, including women, the elderly, and children and more than 10,000 were injured.
