The streets, shops, and vehicles were decorated with Kurdish flags, and citizens, men and women, wore the distinctive Kurdish dress as they gathered around the torches in the city center, as if they were defying the Corona pandemic ..While a number of knights wearing the classic Kurdish dress began to perform shows on their horses.

The celebrations reflected the spirit of peaceful coexistence among the members of society. As all the sects and nationalities that make up the Khanaqin community participated in it. And the Kurdish media and the Kurdish dress were the most prominent in all scenes, which is a clear message confirming that Khanaqin is Kurdish.

The members of the Khanaqin Organizations Center of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan shared joy with the masses, and in this regard, the leading member, Engineer Hersh Habib, head of the Khanaqin Organizations Center for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, congratulated the sons of Khanaqin, the Kurdish people and the whole of Iraq, expressing his pleasure to share the celebration with his comrades, his family and friends, and wishing that Newroz carries the message of harmony, peace and coexistence, lifting injustice and oppression from the citizens, and being good for the Kurdish people and achieving its legitimate demands. The engineer, Hersh Habib, pledged to struggle for full rights in the excluded Kurdish areas and to ensure the comfort of their citizens.

It is worth noting that lighting the main torch in the city center was entrusted to the young Farhad Hussein, son of the martyr of al-Alam Hussain Ahmad Aziz, who was killed during widespread protests against the Iraqi forces that stormed the city of Khanaqin in 2016.

Farhad, the son of the martyr Hussein Ahmed, said: "I feel proud as I feel that my father is with me and his soul is hovering around us, and that his blood did not go in vain."

For his part, the well-known civil activist, Sorour Ali, explained the details of the preparations that took place before the ceremony, stressing that he and a group of civil activists and media professionals voluntarily and at their own expense prepared the venue for the celebration and constructed the square-shaped torch that symbolized the four parts of Kurdistan, indicating that the municipality of Khanaqin, affiliated to the Kurdistan Region took it upon itself to prepare the second main torch, while the municipality of Khanaqin / Diyala built the light torch.

It is noteworthy that Khanaqin is part of the areas disputed between the KRG and the Iraqi Governmentr and according to Article 140 of Iraqi constitition, it is defined as being part of the areas Arabized during the fallen Iraqi Baath regime.
