A Kurdish official on Wednesday reported that 31 people have been killed since the beginning of the year in Al-Hol camp in the city of Al Hasakah, western Kurdistan, which holds tens of thousands of displaced people and families of ISIS extremists.

In light of repeated attacks on humanitarian workers, Doctors Without Borders announced, on Tuesday, after the killing of one of its local workers, to suspend its services in the camp that the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria supervises, while the United Nations repeatedly warns of the worsening of the already deteriorating security situation.

"Since the beginning of the year 2021, the death toll has reached 31 people, six of them were killed with a definite object, and the rest were shot by pistols," Jaber Sheikh Mustafa, the official of the relations office of the Autonomous Administration in the camp, told AFP.

"We believe that ISIS cells are behind these assassinations, which occur especially in the section on Iraqis and Syrians," he added. He explained that the majority of the dead were Iraqis.

A previous toll was reported by another Kurdish official to France Press on February 8, according to which 14 people were killed, three of them by beheading. A humanitarian worker, who refused to reveal his identity, spoke to France Press at the time, about "tribal tensions" that may be behind some of the crimes.

The overcrowded camp hosts about 62,000 people, the vast majority of them women and children, and suffers from poor basic services.

In protest against the deteriorating security situation, Doctors Without Borders announced in a statement on Tuesday the suspension of its services "temporarily", including the provision of medical care and some water and sanitation services.
