Moscow repatriates 145 Russian children born from ISIS families

The Children's Rights Commissioner for the President of the Russia, Anna Kuznetsova, has confirmed that Russia has returned 145 Russian children born from ISIS families from Syria and Iraq since the start of the coronavirus epidemic.

 

"During the epidemic, we were the only one that managed to make 6 trips and bring back 145 children," Kuznetsova said in a statement to "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" newspaper.

 

The Commissioner thanked the Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova for the efforts she had put in place to transfer of children despite epidemiological situation.

 

Kuznetsova noted that the repatriation program has been coordinated with the Syrian and Iraqi authorities.

 

She stressed that it is difficult to determine the number of children remaining there, but so far there are documents ready for the return of another 105 children.

 

According to the the State Website RT, the Russian authorities have been making efforts over recent years to return Russian children, whose parents or mothers have gone to Syria and Iraq to join the ranks of various armed groups, including ISIS, to participate in combat operations.

 

SIS occupied vast swaths of land in Iraq and Syrian back in 2014 announcing a caliphate across both countries. Many foreign fighters have joined the ranks of ISIS leaving many families and children of foreign nationalities.
