The Kurdistan Parliament is scheduled to hold its first session of the spring legislative term on Monday, while the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc stressed the need for the Kurdistan Parliament to play its legislative and oversight role.

MP Ziyad Jabbar, head of the PUK bloc in the Kurdistan Parliament, said during a televised statement that the spring legislative term of Kurdistan Parliament will take care of draft laws that serve the interests of citizens and contribute to improving their living conditions.

"The PUK bloc will support any draft law that is in the interest of citizens and improving their living conditions," MP Jabbar said.

He added: "The PUK bloc supports the Kurdistan Parliament to play its legislative and oversight role effectively and work to finalize the Kurdistan Regional Constitution bill in addition to discussing the draft law on administrative decentralization and providing freedoms, and the burden of implementing the reform project in the oil and non-oil imports."

He said that the 2021 budget bill is one of the important draft laws that the Kurdistan Parliament will discuss, noting that the PUK bloc submitted 6 draft laws related to the life and livelihood of citizens.

After two months of rest, the Kurdistan Parliament is scheduled to hold its first spring session today.

The important topic before the Kurdistan Parliament for this season will be the budget bill, which is entering the Kurdistan Parliament after about 8 years, as the Kurdistan Parliament has not approved any budget bill since 2013.

The KRG attributed the break in bills to the war with Islamic State (ISIS), and the cut in the KRG’s share of the federal budget from Baghdad in the years that followed and later the coronavirus crisis.
