5 cases of mutated coronavirus recorded in the Kurdistan Region

On Sunday, the Ministry of Health in the Kurdistan Regional Government has officially announced that 5 cases of the mutated coronavirus have been recorded in the Kurdistan Region.

 

Dr. Aso Hwezi, a spokesman for the Ministry of Health in the Kurdistan Region, said in a statement that the results of laboratory tests of suspected cases showed that 5 people had been infected with the mutated coronavirus.

 

He added that there are some more suspected cases, indicating that this is the first time that cases of mutated coronavirus have been recorded in the Kurdistan Region.

 

All of the 5 cases were recorded in the Kurdistan Region's capital Erbil.

 

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in the Kurdistan Regional Government, Dr. Rahel Faraidun, had previously confirmed to PUKmedia that there are some suspected cases of mutated coronavirus in the Kurdistan Region, and samples of laboratory tests for the cases were sent abroad to confirm them.

 

So far the Kurdistan Region has recorded over 107,000 of the ordinary coronavirus with about 103,000 recoveries and over 3,500 deaths.

 

Officials in the Kurdistan Region continue to call on citizens to abide by the health instruction by wearing masks and avoiding crowded places to protect themselves from infection with the virus.
